Client context

The National Mental Health Strategy sets out Qatar's vision to provide the best possible mental health services for its citizens, while changing attitudes towards mental illness. To inform future mental health campaigns research was required to provide insights into attitudes and perceptions towards mental health in the Qatari and Arab expatriate populations. Research was also needed to establish baseline indicators to measure change

Our approach

A comprehensive research study was carried out which involved: a review of local, regional and international case studies on mental health; 11 focus group discussions with Qatari nationals and Arab expatriates; 12 in-depth interviews with mental health patients; and 1,000 surveys with Qatar residents.

Outcome

The intelligence gained from the qualitative research provided strategic direction and insights for the mental health communication campaigns and informed the development of the quantitative measurement tool. The quantitative survey provided a baseline indicator to measure the progress of communication campaigns.
